Cloth a little dull and lightly rubbed at extremities, Book Society bookplate to front pastedown else a very good copy in rather browned and rubbed dustwrapper missing some shallow chips at extremities of spine and corners (not affecting any lettering). £275

234. WAUGH, EVELYN.

Proof woodcut illustration, approximately 4 x 3 inches, [1924]. Depicting two standing male figures in conversation, the elder one apparently addressing his younger self. Published in the January 1924 issue of "The Golden Hind" (Volume 2, Number 6, p.43) to illustrate a review of his brother Alec's "Myself When Young". In excellent condition and a scarce example of Waugh's early artistic work. £1500

The Aerodrome, The Bodley Head, London, 1941. First edition, second printing - as scarce as the first as the majority of copies were apparently destroyed in The Blitz. Spine slightly cocked, a trifle dusty but a very good copy in somewhat soiled dustwrapper, sunned at spine and missing some small chips at extremities. £150

The Young Visitors, Viking, New York, 1965. First American edition - the dedication copy, inscribed on the front free endpaper to: "Frank and Maureen [Kermode] with love from John 1965". The printed dedication reads simply: "Frank's". A very good copy in damp-stained dustwrapper, faded at spine, with Wain's holograph note to upper flap: "Puke-making blurb". £175
